Message from Susan:

Neither I or my husband have retired, but we are thinking about taking the leap or plunge whatever within a few years.

I'm working full time at the University of Wisconsin in the Dept of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, the Fundus Photograph Reading Center as a Research Program Manager. I'm a ocular disease evaluator or as we were called "grader". We evaluate stereo images (film or digital) of retinas and lenses from individuals that are enrolled in federal or pharmaceutical funded phase 2 and phase 3 drug studies and long term nutrition studies. Phase 2 and 3 are the final phases before FDA approval of the medication. The diseases we evaluate are age related eye disease (AMD & cataracts), diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, and uveitis.

For fun I raise orchids, am a member of Orchid Grower's Guild www.orchidguild.org, Wisconsin northern Illinois North American Rock Garden Society and organize fundraising activities for my work place. I've been the captain of the Reading Center's team for the Race for Cure held in Madison in the spring.

Check out the Ruth-Carrie EYE Team (named from two co-workers fighting the disease.) website: Click here to visit my personal page and pledge your support.

So far this year we have raised over $2000! I also helped raise $1000 last year for the 2007 race and for a Walk for Sight to fund cataract surgeries in third world countries.
