Message from Mike:

Greetings from Mike

I retired in 2002 after 24 years at IBM in Rochester, Minnesota. Prior to that time I spent 11 years at the Mayo Clinic, also in Rochester. Although there are days when I feel I should be working, and would enjoy it, thus far I’ve managed to summon the energy to fight it off. My wife, Joan, continues to work at the Mayo Clinic in the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Her retirement date is hopefully not too far off.

Until 2006 Joan and I lived in Rochester. We then built a home on the old farmstead in Alma, just up and over the bluff to the east of the Alma High School property.

We have three sons and four grandchildren who fortunately live within an hour’s drive.

Most of the time, we keep very busy just staying home. After living in the city for nearly 40 years, we are enjoying the rural life. There is always lawn to mow, snow to plow, trees to trim, gardens to tend, brush to cut, naps to take – the list goes on endlessly. I spend a lot of time on the Internet, raise a few trout, and each fall spend many hours sitting silently in the woods alone: some call it deer hunting. Joan recently returned from a medical mission in Tanzania. I stayed home and tended the beagles, preferring Lyme’s disease to malaria.

Hope to see you all in June.
